For a real Russian winter, the men's winter jacket "pilot" is just a godsend. Fashionable, practical and comfortable, it has not ceased to be relevant for many years. What is so special about this type of clothing that men, and sometimes women, love it for? And how do you know for sure that this is a real legendary bomber jacket?

Peculiarities

"Pilot", "aviator", bomber - these are all names for a men's jacket that has not gone out of fashion for almost a century. It was originally conceived as a uniform for American bomber pilots, hence the name. However, the clothes were so liked by the military that they were launched into mass production, after which they became available to civilians. The first instance of the jacket was created in 1949. Since then, he not only has not lost its relevance, but also continues to personify masculinity and heroism.

The popularity of this style is very simple to explain. It is universal and suitable for almost all men, regardless of age, social status and occupation. The bomber will be appropriate both in the bustle of the city and in the countryside. Due to the wide armholes of the sleeves, the jacket does not constrain movement, and the shortened length allows equally free movement in public transport, in a car or on a motorcycle (bicycle).

Initially, the "pilot" jacket had a number of differences.

  • The classic color option is all shades of brown. And also lighter colors or camouflage colors are allowed.
  • Lining color orange. This was done so that in the event of an accident, the pilot put on the jacket with the wrong side up, so that he could be found.
  • The back of the product can be cut from one piece of fabric or joined from two shelves.
  • Production material - coarse tanned genuine leather.
  • The length of the jacket is approximately to the hip, in the lower part there are additional straps so that the wind does not blow from below.
  • The armhole of the sleeve is spacious so that it is comfortable to move, in the area of the wrist the sleeve narrows and is also supplemented with straps.
  • The top of the bomber jacket is insulated with a high collar trimmed with sheepskin fur. The same fur trim is often repeated on the cuffs of the sleeves and along the entire length of the garment.
  • A prerequisite is a lot of pockets, both explicit and hidden. Usually these are two side and several inner ones, which are fastened with a zipper. Pockets on the chest and even on the sleeves are also allowed.
  • The jacket itself is fastened with a metal zipper.

Modern variations

Initially, the bomber jacket was sewn exclusively from genuine leather, mainly from buffalo. The jacket had patch pockets that were not insulated for reasons of principle. The fact is that according to the charter, pilots were not supposed to keep their hands in their pockets. Today there are many deviations from the original standards.

Modern designers have come up with various options not only for winter, but also for warmer weather. For example, today on fashion catwalks you can find leather jacket "pilot" both with fur and without it. If fur is still present, then it does not have to be sheepskin. The collar can be replaced with a hood, and genuine leather - with an artificial one.

Over time, some manufacturers decided to abandon the use of fur altogether. The collar began to be made of knitwear, and the lining was not made of sheepskin, as in the original version, but of down or padding polyester. Instead of the lower straps, the bomber jacket is decorated with an elastic band. Thus, the "aviator" jacket from a sheepskin coat has turned into a lightweight and comfortable down jacket. And only a shortened length remained from the original image.

Another modern interpretation of the bomber jacket - leather jacket. Made of leather, it is not insulated, but richly decorated with various metal rivets. This is a very popular option among rappers and some other musical cultures.

And also there are options for bomber jackets made of textiles - it can be nylon, tarpaulin or thick cotton. They can often be seen on athletes - skateboarders, skiers and others.

How to choose?

The choice of a pilot jacket depends primarily on the time of year in which you are going to wear it. Since today designers offer to use "pilot" jackets not only in winter, but also in the off-season, and even in summer, then pay attention to the material of manufacture... Obviously, for the winter time, it is most appropriate to choose the classics of the genre - products made of tanned leather with fur lining. For opponents of natural fur, modern stores offer comfortable and light faux fur jackets.

However, you should take into account the climatic conditions of the area where you will be wearing these clothes. For a calm European winter, it is quite suitable, but for more northern regions, you should take a closer look at products made from natural fur or a down jacket.

For spring and autumn, leather jackets are suitable without lining or on a thin padding polyester. Recently, textile bombers have come into vogue. Often, the fabric for them is treated with a special water-repellent compound so that you can walk in them in wet weather.

Fans of military style may not part with their favorite clothes even in summer. For evening coolness, it is recommended to purchase a textile windbreaker. Wherein the colors do not have to be dark and brutal - fabric "aviators" come in the boldest colors - from boiling white to bright ultramarine. A bomber jacket made of cotton or nylon with a floral print will look very original and youthful.

At the time of purchase, a thorough visual inspection should be performed: check the integrity of the seams and the serviceability of the fittings. A genuine leather product can be tested for its natural origin by burning a small piece of leather in an inconspicuous place.

Ideally, such things are best bought in specialized stores, where the quality is confirmed by relevant documents.

    What to wear with?

The "pilot" jacket is universal in any design. Both the winter and the demi-season version can be attributed to the sports and semi-sports style, which will be equally appropriate both at a sports base and in a modern metropolis.

Ideal for pairing a jacket with jeans and a knitted sweater. For this style, you can recommend brutal tractor-soled shoes or high boots with laces.

If it is necessary to observe the dress code, it is allowed to combine the "aviator" with classic trousers and a shirt. A in this case, it is better to replace a suit jacket with a loose plain pullover... It is better to refuse a tie in this version.

If, nevertheless, a tie is necessary, it would be more appropriate to choose a discreet style with discreet colors.
