Backlit stretch ceilings add a special atmosphere to the bedroom interior. From the material of this article, you will learn what the pros and cons of this design are, what they are by the type of tape placement and the type of lamps used.

Advantages and disadvantages

The use of backlit stretch ceilings in the bedroom has a number of advantages:

  • they meet fire safety requirements;
  • characterized by durability and practicality;
  • are distinguished by aesthetic appeal;
  • make the interior of the bedroom stylish and cozy;
  • imply a different installation method;
  • have a flat and smooth surface;
  • provide for a different type of built-in lighting;
  • are made from various raw materials;
  • are suture and seamless;
  • have a wide color palette;
  • can be combined with any finishing materials;
  • suitable for decorating bedrooms in different styles;
  • differ in a wide price range.

The design of these structures in the bedroom is not limited. They can have a different number of levels, like the combined type of lighting. However, along with the advantages, backlit stretch ceilings have several disadvantages. The key ones are:

  • deformation of the panels after the flood from the upper apartments;
  • poor film quality for counterfeit products;
  • sagging of the material when arranging ceilings in overall rooms;
  • low environmental friendliness and the need for high-quality ventilation;
  • reducing the height of the walls (in the case of fastening to the crate);
  • the need for a heat gun when pulling on the frame;
  • lack of maintainability in the event of a rupture.

Creation of complex structures with built-in lighting is within the power of professionals. When cutting out the canvas, the utmost precision is needed: if you cut too much, the film will have to be thrown out.

The choice of lighting for tensioning structures is related to the texture of the used film. With an incorrectly selected luminaire, you can overload the ceiling space with glare from light sources. For example, this is especially important when choosing a backlight for stretch film with photo printing.

Unnecessary highlights will hide part of the picture, which will impair its aesthetic perception.

Use of LED panels and luminaires

Often, when arranging stretch ceilings in the bedroom, lighting devices in the form of LED panels are used. At their base is a group of diodes. From above they are covered with matte plexiglass. Such lamps often replace traditional chandeliers.

They come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Most often, their shape is geometric. Based on the dimensions of the bedroom, the size and number of devices, such devices can replace general lighting in full. They are often used for bedrooms with low ceilings.

A dimmer is considered a useful option. Thanks to him, you can change the intensity of the glow of the selected light sources. It can be built not only into a chandelier, but also into a tape or spotlight.

LED strip placement options

The LED strip helps create a different lighting effect in the bedroom. One-level, two-level, multi-level structures are suitable for its use. In this case, the installation of the tape can be very diverse.

Light lines can be located along the entire perimeter of the panel or along its accent part. The tape itself can be placed behind the ceiling curb or inside (under the film). The use of tape behind the molding creates the effect of a floating structure.

Depending on the type of the desired effect, the LED strip can be built in for general lighting, hidden additional lighting or curtain-type lighting. With its help, you can create the effect of depth and inner glow (for example, imitation of a starry sky).

It can be positioned evenly across the floor. In this case, when the light is on, the entire surface of the ceiling will glow. When turned off, the ceiling will not differ from the usual one.

In addition to using polystyrene curtain rods for mounting LED strips, a special box is often mounted around the perimeter of the ceiling. If the tape is embedded inside the film, for example, to create the effect of a starry sky, holes are made in the panel for embedding fiber. Depending on the design of the ceiling, the tape can be combined with a chandelier or LED panel.

The ribbon can be single or multi-colored. This allows you to change the atmosphere of the bedroom at your own discretion. The flexible luminaire can be mounted not only linearly, but also in the form of curved lines, repeating the contours of the figures at various levels of the ceiling structure. This technique is used when arranging combined-type ceilings, in which the film is combined with drywall.

We use spotlights

In addition to central lighting, when arranging stretch ceilings with illumination in the bedroom, it is possible to organize the illumination of the panel with spotlights (for example, spotlights). These types of backlighting are distinguished by their small size and direct direction of the luminous flux. When used along the entire perimeter of the ceiling, they can replace the central luminaire.

They are placed with equal spacing at a small distance from each other, mainly in the form of light lines or various shapes. By type of design, point lighting devices are overhead and built-in. The case of the first type options is mounted outside the panel. These lighting devices have different shapes (cubic, spherical, cylindrical, ring-shaped). They illuminate the room better than analogs of the built-in type.

Due to the built-in housing, the angle of light scattering, as well as ventilation, deteriorates.

A special group of spotlights for stretch structures in the bedroom include spots... They are distinguished by the presence of a swivel mechanism. These models are single or group. They are good at changing the direction of the light flux. Moreover, their arrangement is usually linear. Spot lighting of the ceiling is used for filling light, accentuating certain areas of the room, emphasizing the division into separate functional zones.

Choice of lighting devices

The backlighting of the stretch fabric can change the mood of the interior, accentuate the advantages of the room and hide the shortcomings of the room layout. The classic modern lighting scheme for a bedroom with a stretch ceiling involves the use of three light lines:

  • overhead light is considered fill;
  • wall lamps are placed along the middle line;
  • bottom lighting involves the use of floor lamps or table lamps.

Insufficient ceiling lighting will make the bedroom uncomfortable. By means of ceiling lighting, it is necessary to visually ennoble the room (make it more spacious, equalize the proportions). For example, light lines from luminaires on the short side of the ceiling visually lengthen it. If you need to make the wall wider, you need to choose a bright backlight.

Incandescent lamps are not used for tensioning structures. They negatively affect the PVC film. LED or energy-saving modern lamps are considered ideal.

The choice of lighting location depends on various factors. For example, if with its help it is decided to zone the space, it can be located above a specific area of the bedroom (dressing table, bed, wall opposite the bed).

The key selection criterion is the unity of the temperature of the lighting sources. The difference between them should not exceed 500 K.

Beautiful examples

We offer several examples of a spectacular backlit ceiling design:

  • the use of an LED strip in the form of a double stroke of a plasterboard insert with the creation of the effect of a floating ceiling;
  • accentuation of the sleeping area by means of built-in spotlights;
  • an example of combining a central chandelier above the bed area with overhead lamps near the window;
  • a combined type of lighting for the sleeping area with the use of spotlights and a bright LED strip;
  • the use of wall lighting in addition to the ceiling with accentuation of the sleeping area;
  • an example of a two-level design with illumination in the form of a central and auxiliary luminaires;
  • multi-level ceiling construction with a complex lighting scheme.
