Linoleum is the most versatile flooring material. It is used for any room in the apartment. Most often, it finds its application in the corridor or in the kitchen, but the material is also well suited for the bedroom, although in this case it has its advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages and disadvantages

There are quite a few advantages to linoleum as a floor covering in the bedroom.

This material, despite the cold surface, retains heat well. One of the main advantages is the simplicity of its installation.

This does not require experience or special knowledge. In addition, linoleum is inferior in price to other materials, and its range includes many different color options.

Other benefits:

  • soft and elastic surface;

  • a good indicator of sound insulation;

  • ease of care;

  • stability.

The disadvantages of linoleum include its ability to quickly burn out and absorb various chemicals. For example, if you spill fat, iodine, brilliant green, dyes on the surface of the material, then it will be almost impossible to remove the stains. In addition, after cooling, linoleum heats up for a very long time. The floor will always be cold when there is no heating.

Views

The modern assortment of linoleum includes many varieties. The material differs in composition, some properties and density. To select a specific option, it is important to compare the characteristics of each variety, and choose the most suitable type. Linoleum can be produced not only in rolls, but also in the form of tiles or planks.

Natural

The most common and accessible material. The composition of such linoleum includes pine resin, wood, cork, limestone flour. Jute is used for strength and flexibility. In this case, only natural dyes are used. The material is completely safe for the human body. This is the most durable option, with a service life of over 20 years. Natural linoleum is less prone to fading than its other varieties.

Alkyd

The composition of this type of linoleum includes fillers, coloring pigments, and its basis is an alkyd resin.

The main disadvantages of the material are considered to be relative fragility and low resistance to drafts.

If you put such linoleum incorrectly, then faults will appear on its surface. Under the influence of drafts, it can "swell". Unlike the natural version, this type of material is available in different colors (including patterns and ornaments).

Pvc

PVC linoleum has more advantages than disadvantages. It is resistant to damage, retains heat well, does not rot under the influence of high humidity. The material is easy to fit and comes in a variety of colors. It is more resistant to chemicals than other options. It has few drawbacks - the relative complexity of installation, the preservation of a specific smell during the first weeks.

Colloxin

This type of linoleum is the thinnest. It is produced only in the form of rolls. An impressive list of advantages is combined with an equally large list of disadvantages. The material is beautiful and has a characteristic shine. It possesses good indicators of resistance to moisture, has an elastic and elastic structure. The main disadvantages are considered to be increased flammability, rapid absorption of chemicals and a relatively short service life.

Relin

The basis of this type of linoleum is rubber. The advantages include durability, resistance to moisture, chemicals, low temperatures. The main disadvantage is the evaporation of harmful substances. For a bedroom, this version of the material cannot be used in any case.

Color spectrum

When choosing linoleum for a bedroom, it is important to consider not only its characteristics, but also the color scheme. The coating should go well with the general interior, with individual pieces of furniture. An incorrectly selected color can cause a visual reduction in the room. For small rooms, this option will not be a very good solution.

Color options:

  • imitation wood - suitable for large rooms with good lighting;

  • light colors - ideal for small spaces, will create the effect of expanding the space;
  • imitation dark laminate - for a bedroom in light colors;

  • bright shades - suitable for rooms with light walls;
  • gray colors - visually reduce space, not suitable for small rooms.

How to choose?

The main criteria for choosing linoleum for a bedroom are the thickness and durability of the material.

It is important to consider that the bedroom is a room with minimal traffic.

It is not necessary to use the highest quality material here, but varieties with low characteristics are also not suitable.

Classification by class:

  • first grade - the cheapest version of the material, has a low level of wear resistance;

  • second class - the average service life, which is 5 years, is not suitable for premises with high traffic;

  • third class - the range of colors does not differ in variety, but the coating has good wear resistance;

  • fourth grade - the coating with the best characteristics, is resistant to moisture, damage and temperature extremes.

The thicker the coating is, the higher indicators of wear resistance, sound insulation and thermal insulation it will have. For a flat floor or substrate, options up to 2 mm thick are suitable, for a concrete floor - up to 3 mm.

Manufacturers

When choosing linoleum for a bedroom, it is important to pay attention to the manufacturer's name. The market for such materials has its own leaders, whose products have been in demand for many years.

There are budget and high-priced options in the flooring range.

Large manufacturers always try to cover all market segments.

  • Tarkett. The main activity is aimed at the manufacture of PVC material, in the Russian market the company's products are presented under several brands, the assortment includes affordable and high-quality options.

  • Grabo. Hungarian manufacturer, the main disadvantage of which is the availability of a small assortment on the Russian market. However, the product you like can always be ordered, the products comply with all established standards and have high quality indicators.
  • Juteks. Based in Slovenia, the company is considered one of the largest manufacturers of flooring. Particular attention should be paid to budget options - some varieties can slip, choose better products of the middle or expensive class.

  • Forbo. It is one of the leaders in the flooring market. For the manufacture of the material, natural components of the highest quality are used - various versions of resin, linseed oil, wood flour.

How to make the right bed?

The rules for installing linoleum differ depending on the type of floor covering. The main condition for all types of material is that the surface of the base should be as flat and clean as possible. In some cases, in order to achieve perfect leveling of the floor, it is necessary to additionally use various mixtures, screeds.

Nuances:

  • concrete is considered an ideal surface for linoleum, there is no need for screeds, additional leveling;

  • wooden floors - the main nuance is the cleanliness and dryness of the floor, if fungus is present, then the internal space may begin to rot;

  • Fiberboard and chipboard are not recommended for use as a base - such coatings absorb moisture well, can swell and provoke irregularities;

  • it is not recommended to put new linoleum on the old one, it is possible only on tiles or parquet, if the surface is flat.

A controversial issue is to glue the material or not. There is an opinion that it is enough to press the material to the floor with skirting boards or furniture.

Such a decision may become erroneous. If the temperature in the bedroom is constantly changing (for example, there is an air conditioner, a heater), then the material can shrink and expand.

When deciding on the use of glue, it is important to consider that the entire surface must be glued completely, or not at all.

Adhesive options:

  • PVA;

  • linoleum glue (many varieties from different manufacturers);

  • fixation means (special types of fixing glue).

Beautiful examples

Linoleum with the image of squares is suitable for large rooms. Small bedrooms will appear even smaller with this coverage.

Elegant design options can be found in the modern assortment of linoleum. Visually, such a coating will look very stylish.

Linoleum, the surface of which is made with imitation of different types of wood, is suitable for all modern trends in bedroom design.

A covering with imitation of parquet or laminate practically does not differ from natural materials. There are varieties of linoleum with a relief surface that completely repeat the structure of the tree.
