Not every newly purchased apartment can boast of an ideal layout. Sometimes there are too narrow bedrooms, over the design of which you have to think carefully. And there is something to think about: you need to harmoniously arrange the furniture, equip the room beautifully and comfortably.

Layout types

Modern standards state that the minimum width of the bedroom is from 2.5 meters. This indicator cannot be called convenient for arranging furniture. In "Khrushchevs" the width of the bedroom can be even less - 2.25 meters.

Sometimes narrow bedrooms are found in private one-story houses. If the bedroom is too elongated, then this makes it very difficult to design. A lot of furniture simply won't fit in such a room, so you have to somehow solve this problem.

For narrow spaces, designers offer ready-made project ideas.

  • Furniture can be simply arranged along a long wall.
  • Layout in the shape of the letter "L" will allow you to use part of the short wall and the entire long one. This is ideal if the bedroom has a window. It is better not to furnish the space around the window with furniture - this way the space will look visually wider.
  • Design in the form of the letter "P" involves the use of three walls. There should be free space in the middle of the room.
  • You can also asymmetrically furnish the bedroom-living room. This option assumes a design experiment and will help create a beautiful interior in the room.

If the room is intended not only for relaxation, then space zoning is necessary. The partition can be installed if the room has several windows (otherwise there will not be enough light in the room). This rule is also relevant when arranging a bedroom with a balcony, since balcony structures often prevent daylight from entering the adjacent room.

You can also divide the space into certain zones with the help of various finishes, spot lighting or pieces of furniture. For example, the boudoir and bedroom can be separated with a beautiful screen or curtain.

The choice of materials for finishing

Natural and sustainable materials will look great in the bedroom. The finishing material for the bedroom may not be as moisture resistant as the finishing material for the bathroom or kitchen should be. Wood and natural fabrics will look good in the bedroom.

Floor

The best material for the bedroom floor is wood. Both classic parquet and laminate will look great. The main rule is that rectangular boards should be located perpendicular to the walls. Such a solution will visually expand the space. A fluffy rug by the bed will add coziness to the interior.

Walls

In a narrow bedroom, it is better not to use too complex and textured ornaments. Unusual patterns will look strange in a small space and seem too bulky. It is better to choose a beautiful wallpaper with a neutral color. Small drawings are ideal for the interior of a small room.

Such ornaments can be placed throughout the room or create an unusual mosaic from them. To create contrast, you can use two shades of the same tone when painting.

A lighter shade will look good on long walls, and for short ones, you need to choose a darker color.

Ceiling

For small rooms, a stretch or plasterboard ceiling in one level is best suited. Glossy surfaces visually stretch the space even more, so it is better to choose a matte canvas. Too bulky parts and elements of the ceiling structure will look inappropriate. Simpler options do not "eat up" precious space and visually increase the width of the room.

If you plan to create several levels on the ceiling, then it is better to make boxes along short walls. An excellent solution would be a ceiling with a matte surface. Often the ceiling and walls are painted in the same color, due to which there is a smooth transition between surfaces.

Style directions

A bulky dressing room may simply not fit into a narrow bedroom. Small furniture is much more interesting and functional. However, the design of narrow rooms is not limited to minimalism. If you wish, you can decorate the bedroom in any style.

Classical

Classics are characterized by elegance, beautiful shapes and outlines. The classic style will need to be adapted to the conditions of the narrow space. For example, when decorating a room, you can make not one center, but two at once (one at the opposite wall, and the second at the bed). If you want to decorate the interior with beautiful cabinets, then it is better to choose models without an abundance of details, but with interesting semi-antique fittings.

You can close the corners and junction points using wide carpet tracks or rosettes.

Modern

Renovation in a modern style is a beautiful eclecticism - the use of the best techniques from the classics, hi-tech and other styles. Geometry is in vogue, so it is better to choose furniture that has a clear shape. Bright shades look good, which attract attention and become a kind of accent in the interior. The austerity and laconicism of forms should be combined with an interesting texture and unusual design.

Modern cabinets and shelves, frameless mirrors with beautiful fittings will look good. Instead of the usual color combinations, it is better to use more interesting shades: instead of the usual white, ivory will look good, instead of a yellow shade, you can use mustard.

Scandinavian

The Scandinavian style is characterized by coziness and harmony, so it is ideal for a bedroom. The finish should be very light, it is better to choose colors of neutral shades. In a bright interior, colorful ornaments or contrasting black motifs will look good. You can decorate the room with beautiful handicrafts, as well as living plants.

Loft

The short wall should remain concrete or brick - and the best traditions of the loft style are followed. This style is characterized by the use of complex geometry, simple and comfortable furniture, mirrors and unusual lamps. Posters or prints from comics will look good.

Provence

The delicate style of Provence is inherent in the romance of the French province. This style fits perfectly into any bedroom. For decoration, it is best to use natural colors. The most suitable material for decorating a bedroom is wood: furniture made of bleached wood will look great in the bedroom. Rough rectangular boards can be laid on the floor. Decoupage elements will decorate the interior.

Other

To decorate the room, you can use other modern styles - high-tech or laconic minimalism. These styles are characterized by minimal use of things, but all decorative elements should have an interesting and laconic design. Thanks to all this, you can adjust any configuration of the area of the room and create a feeling of spaciousness and freedom in the interior.

Color solutions

A classic that will never go out and fashion, you can call white and beige shades. A light space visually enlarges the room, hides flaws and emphasizes advantages. You can decorate a classic bedroom with bright pieces of furniture or textiles.

It is believed that dark tones will look out of place in the bedroom. But actually it is not. Deep blue or green, brown and black are well suited for creating an interior in which it will be pleasant to relax after a hard day.

Such colors will blur the clear boundaries of the room and visually make it wider. However, it is best to paint only one or two walls in dark colors, and make the rest light.

Lighting and illumination

Correctly selected lighting transforms the room, emphasizes the harmony of proportions. Spotlights are not very suitable for narrow bedrooms, which are considered the best option for a square room. In narrow spaces, a classic chandelier works perfectly, as well as several additional lamps. Cold lighting will not work in a narrow room, so it is better to choose lamps with a soft glow. It is better if the bedroom has a window. The window opening cannot be cluttered.

You can make the lighting brighter with mirrors. However, there are several nuances: it is better to place the mirror at the base of the bed or on the most illuminated part of the room. To create additional lighting in a specific area of the interior, you can use floor lamps and table lamps. All decor elements should be combined in style, but they can have different heights. The LED strip installed along the vaulted ceiling or bed will give the room a romantic look.

Possible decor and textiles

Decor and beautiful textiles are an indispensable attribute of any interior. When decorating a narrow room, you need to purchase a beautiful mirror. If you put a mirror in front of a long wall, you can visually make the space wider. You cannot put a mirror near a narrow wall - the space will look even smaller than it actually is. You can create a feeling of infinity and freedom using lightweight materials. The windows can be hung with tulle or minimalistic blinds.

It is better to refuse too heavy fabrics, as well as textured curtains or bedspreads. Heavy curtains will only visually make it heavier and reduce the space. For decoration, it is worth stopping at thin blackout fabrics without additional drapery or complex details.

Several decorative pillows can be placed on the bed and on the armchairs. Together with a bright bedspread, these decorative elements will add dynamics to the interior.

Examples of interiors

  • To save free space and visually expand the room, it is better to refuse too heavy furniture. Instead of a cabinet, you can purchase several small shelves. On one of the walls, you can apply an interesting print or drawing, which will also "work" to visually expand the space. Light shades set you up for rest and relaxation, they go well with dark colors. As a balance, you can place several dark pieces of furniture against a background of light walls.
  • A romantic setting will turn out if you create a bedroom interior in pink tones. If you put a mirror in front of the window, you can make the room more spacious. The walls should not be overloaded with unnecessary ornaments or patterns (the wallpaper looks great on one wall too).
  • An uncommon option would be to paint the walls white. You can complement the laconic light interior with wide tulle curtains. White furniture complements the overall color characteristic of the interior, while bright and unusual textiles act as a colorful accent. For this design, spotlights and several compact chandeliers were used that visually blur the boundaries of the room.
  • The room looks beautiful in which the bed is set against the window. This solution saves a lot of free space. A long mirror will expand the room and make the interior more interesting. The narrow console serves as a storage for things, as well as a desktop.
